March Announcements: Inaugural Talks and Tastings, Official Growing Season Start, and More!

The community garden appeared dormant during the winter months, with barren beds and leafless trees giving an impression of stillness. However, behind the scenes, dedicated volunteers were busy planning the upcoming planting schedule, organizing workshops, and preparing for the bustling season ahead.
February was a busy and bustling month for new membership, and we are delighted to welcome all the new faces we’ll have the opportunity to meet, work with, and learn from in the upcoming months. To all our new members, welcome aboard to the Mid Shooks Run Community Garden!
In March, there’s more happening behind the scenes and at the community garden. Here’s this month’s preview:
Official Growing Season Starts Today:
Get ready to roll up your sleeves and dig into another season of planting, growing, and harvesting together. The gardening season officially kicked off on March 1st, and we can't wait to see everyone's green thumbs in action and witness the garden bursting into life once again. Let's make this season the best one yet!
Inaugural Talks and Tastings Event: Larry’s Tips for a Successful Vegetable Garden
Larry Stebbins will be presenting at our inaugural "Talks and Tastings" event on Thursday, March 28th. This unique gathering combines the joy of learning with the pleasure of shared meals, fostering a sense of community and connection. The event is open to the public, and admission is free! However, it’s a potluck; attendees must bring a dish to share. Visit this event’s page for more information.
Plots Available for Reservation:
There are a handful of plots available for the 2024 gardening season that can be reserved through our Reserve a Plot page. Once we hit capacity, you’ll see a link to our waitlist on the same page. If you weren’t able to secure a plot this year, make sure you join our waitlist! And while you’re waiting - or even if you’d like to be part of the community garden without reserving a plot - please don’t hesitate to join our community garden events and volunteer opportunities. It's a wonderful opportunity for members to connect, bond, and share their experiences with one another. From group workdays and workshops to potlucks and seasonal celebrations, these activities truly enrich our sense of community and camaraderie at Mid Shooks Run Community Garden.
Welcome New Committee Members:
A heartfelt thank you goes out to all the incredible community members who have volunteered to serve on a committee this year. We truly cannot be successful without you. Thank you for all that you will do this year.
Later this month, our garden committees will be holding their first meetings of the year. If you have a knack for organizing, communicating, or leading initiatives, we invite you to volunteer and make an impact in shaping the future of our garden. If you are not a committee member and are interested in joining, please contact us online, over email, or by phone for more details and to express your interest. By volunteering your time and expertise, you are helping to ensure that our garden continues to thrive and provide a welcoming space for everyone in the neighborhood.
Rain Barrels Available at Discounted Rates:
Our partners at the Fountain Creek Watershed District are now offering rain barrels at discounted rates. Rain barrels are a fantastic way to collect and store rainwater for your garden, helping you save on water bills while practicing conservation. To purchase your rain barrel, check out their webpage.
We're looking forward to a fruitful and joyous growing season together. Happy gardening!
